Arrive in Paro, where dramatic Himalayan peaks frame one of the world’s most memorable airport approaches. Meet your private guide and begin the journey to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. Along the way, winding mountain roads, riverside valleys and prayer-flag-covered hillsides provide a first glimpse into a country that has deliberately chosen to prioritise culture, sustainability and wellbeing. Settle into your luxury lodge and enjoy your first evening immersed in Bhutan’s uniquely peaceful atmosphere.
Day
2
Spend the day exploring Thimphu’s cultural treasures. Visit traditional arts institutes, heritage museums and local workshops where centuries-old crafts continue to be practised today. Despite being Bhutan’s largest city, Thimphu retains a remarkably relaxed pace, blending modern life with deeply rooted traditions. Throughout the day, gain a deeper understanding of the values and customs that shape contemporary Bhutanese society.
Day
3
Travel eastward over the spectacular Dochula Pass, where rows of white chortens stand against the backdrop of the Himalayas. Descend into the lush Punakha Valley, known for its fertile landscapes, rivers and important religious heritage. The changing scenery highlights Bhutan’s remarkable diversity, from cool mountain forests to subtropical valleys filled with terraced fields and flowering jacaranda trees.
Day
4
Today combines cultural immersion with some of Bhutan’s most memorable hospitality experiences. Explore Punakha Dzong, widely regarded as the kingdom’s most beautiful fortress-monastery, situated at the confluence of two rivers. Later, visit a local family home, where conversations over traditional butter tea provide a rare insight into daily life and community traditions. The day concludes with exceptional Bhutanese cuisine, including dining experiences inspired by some of the country’s most celebrated culinary venues.
Day
5
Leave Punakha behind and journey toward the isolated beauty of the Gangtey region. Nestled within the glacial Phobjikha Valley, this area is one of Bhutan’s most peaceful and scenic destinations. Rolling meadows, pine forests and traditional villages create a sense of complete seclusion. Depending on the season, the valley may also host the rare black-necked cranes that migrate here from Tibet each winter.
Day
6
Spend the day exploring the landscapes around Gangtey through guided walks and cultural encounters. Follow scenic trails across the valley floor and surrounding hillsides, stopping at viewpoints that reveal sweeping Himalayan panoramas. Visit monasteries where monks continue centuries-old traditions, and experience the profound sense of calm that defines this remote corner of Bhutan.
Day
7
Travel back toward Paro through winding mountain roads and dramatic valleys. Along the way, pause at scenic viewpoints and cultural landmarks before arriving in one of Bhutan’s most important historical regions. The remainder of the day is yours to relax, enjoy your lodge and prepare for tomorrow’s iconic experience.
Day
8
Rise early for the hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery, the country’s most famous and revered landmark. Clinging dramatically to a cliff face high above Paro Valley, the monastery is deeply woven into Bhutanese spiritual identity. The trail passes through pine forests and prayer flags before revealing breathtaking views of the monastery suspended above the valley. The combination of physical effort, history and scenery makes this one of the most rewarding experiences anywhere in the Himalayas.
Day
9
Venture beyond Paro to explore lesser-known regions such as the Haa Valley or Chele La Pass. These quieter landscapes reveal a more intimate side of Bhutan, where traditional villages, mountain monasteries and remote alpine scenery remain largely untouched by tourism. The day offers an opportunity to connect more deeply with Bhutan’s landscapes and people before the journey comes to an end.
