From the Andes to the Sea

Day

1

Arrival in Bogotá

Arrive in Bogotá, Colombia’s vibrant capital, set more than 2,600 metres above sea level against the eastern ranges of the Andes. Settle into your elegant city hotel and allow the remainder of the day to unfold at a relaxed pace. Bogotá provides a compelling introduction to the country, balancing historic neighbourhoods and colonial architecture with a sophisticated contemporary cultural and culinary scene. Your journey will ultimately lead from these high-altitude streets through Colombia’s celebrated coffee landscapes and Medellín before reaching the Caribbean coast.

Day

2

Understanding Culture of Bogotá

Begin among the colourful produce and lively food stalls of Paloquemao Market, sampling some of the ingredients and flavours that define Colombian cuisine. Continue into La Candelaria, Bogotá’s historic heart, where colonial-era streets lead towards artistic and cultural landmarks including the renowned Gold Museum. Later, ascend above the city by funicular or cable car for sweeping views over the capital and surrounding mountains, gaining a dramatic perspective on Bogotá’s extraordinary Andean setting.

Day

3

Journey into Colombia's Coffee Region

Leave Bogotá behind and travel into Colombia’s mountainous Coffee Region, a landscape recognised by UNESCO for its distinctive cultural heritage. Settle into Hacienda Bambusa, surrounded by tropical vegetation and productive farmland, before discovering the craft behind one of Colombia’s most famous exports. Explore a working coffee farm, learn how cultivation and processing influence the final cup and develop your palate through an expert-led tasting, all amid the lush foothills of the Andes.

Day

4

Discovering Cocora Valley

Venture deeper into the Coffee Region to explore the spectacular Cocora Valley, where Colombia’s towering Quindío wax palms rise above misty green slopes. Walk through this distinctive Andean landscape before continuing into the region’s colourful villages, including Salento, where traditional architecture, handicrafts and mountain scenery evoke the character of Colombia’s coffee country. The day combines some of the country’s most recognisable natural scenery with the small-town culture that has developed around its fertile highlands.

Day

5

Journey to Medellín

Continue north into the green hills of Antioquia and arrive in Medellín, beautifully positioned within the Aburrá Valley. Once associated internationally with a turbulent chapter of Colombia’s history, the city has undergone significant urban and social change and today is recognised for its public spaces, cultural institutions and innovative transport systems. Settle into Elcielo Hotel and begin experiencing a city known locally as the City of Eternal Spring, with its mild climate and mountains rising on every side.

Day

6

Witness Medellín’s Transformation

Explore Medellín alongside an expert guide, discovering the public spaces, museums and neighbourhoods that illustrate the city’s transformation. Continue into Comuna 13, where community initiatives, public infrastructure and a flourishing creative culture have become closely associated with Medellín’s regeneration. A particularly personal element of the day is the opportunity to meet the owner of a local family business and hear first-hand how changes within the city have affected everyday life.

Day

7

Discovering Guatapé and Peñol Rock

Journey east from Medellín into the scenic countryside surrounding Guatapé. Wander through cobbled streets lined with vividly painted buildings and the decorative zócalos that give the town its distinctive character. Nearby, the immense Peñol Rock rises dramatically above a reservoir scattered with forested islands and winding waterways. Take in the scenery from the surrounding landscape or venture onto the reservoir by boat for another perspective on one of Antioquia’s most photogenic destinations before returning to Medellín.

Day

8

Journey to Cartagena

Exchange the mountains of Antioquia for Colombia’s Caribbean coast as you continue to Cartagena. Settle into Casa San Agustín, an intimate retreat within the historic city, before beginning your introduction through its food. Explore Cartagena’s distinctive culinary heritage through dishes and street-food traditions shaped over centuries by Spanish, African, Arab and other cultural influences. The experience provides a flavourful first encounter with a city renowned for its colour, warmth and unmistakably Caribbean character.

Day

9

Discovering Cartagena’s Historic Walled City

Spend the day exploring the historic heart of Cartagena, where centuries-old walls enclose a labyrinth of cobbled streets, elegant plazas and vividly coloured colonial façades. Discover the architecture and cultural traditions that have made the city one of Colombia’s defining destinations, while allowing time to absorb the atmosphere of its galleries, courtyards and lively public spaces. A&K places particular emphasis on Cartagena’s combination of culture, gastronomy and music, making today an immersive exploration rather than simply a sightseeing tour.

Day

10

Journey to the Rosario Islands

Depart Cartagena aboard a private vessel, travelling across its historic bay past the forts of San José and San Fernando before emerging into the open Caribbean. Continue towards the Rosario Islands, an archipelago surrounded by clear tropical waters and coral reefs. Arrive on Barú and settle into Sofitel Barú Calablanca Beach Resort, where the final chapter of your journey shifts decisively towards relaxation. Spend the remainder of the day enjoying the coast, warm Caribbean waters and slower island rhythm.

Day

11

Dat at Leisure

Slow the pace completely with a full day on Barú Island, known for its pale sands, clear water and colourful marine life. Spend the morning swimming or relaxing beside the Caribbean, or venture beneath the surface to discover the reefs and tropical fish surrounding the Rosario archipelago. With no need for an extensive touring programme, today provides space to unwind at the resort and enjoy the landscape at leisure — an elegant contrast to the cultural and mountain experiences of the previous days.

Day

12
