Day

1

Arrival in Hobart

Arrive in Hobart and settle into your centrally located hotel, with time to unwind before meeting the small group of fellow photographers who will share the journey. This evening, gather for a relaxed welcome dinner and introductory briefing, setting the scene for ten days dedicated to Tasmania’s landscapes and wildlife. With expert photographic guidance throughout, the journey is designed to make the most of changing light, natural conditions and the island’s remarkably diverse environments.

Day

2

Discovering Bruny Island

Travel south from Hobart and cross to Bruny Island, where dramatic coastal scenery provides the first dedicated photography opportunities of the expedition. Spend the journey seeking out sweeping viewpoints and rugged landscapes, with time built around capturing the island under favourable natural light. Your base is Bruny Island Escapes, ideally positioned for encounters with local wildlife and evening photography as golden light settles across this remote corner of southern Tasmania.

Day

3

Experiencing the Inala Nature Tour

Spend the day immersed in the remarkable habitats of Inala Nature Tours, with dedicated opportunities to photograph Tasmania’s endemic birds and other native wildlife. The experience offers an intimate introduction to the island’s biodiversity, with expert guidance helping you observe and photograph subjects within their natural surroundings. Afterwards, return to Bruny Island Escapes for another evening amid the island’s coastal wilderness, with changing light and local wildlife offering further possibilities for photographers.

Day

4

Journey to Mount Field

Return to mainland Tasmania and make your way to kunanyi / Mount Wellington, where expansive viewpoints provide an opportunity to photograph Hobart, the Derwent River and the surrounding landscapes from above. Afterwards, journey inland as coastal scenery gives way to the forests of southern Tasmania. Arrive at Mount Field Retreat, positioned on the edge of ancient woodland and close to Mount Field National Park, providing an atmospheric base for the next stage of your photographic exploration.

Day

5

Discovering Mount Field National Park

Immerse yourself in the atmospheric landscapes of Mount Field National Park, where towering trees, ancient rainforest and cascading waterfalls provide an exceptional natural studio. Spend the day refining compositions among the forest, experimenting with long exposures around flowing water and working with the soft light filtering through the canopy. A second night at Mount Field Retreat keeps you close to the park, allowing the itinerary to make the most of conditions and photographic opportunities as they evolve.

Day

6

Venturing Into the Central Highlands

Leave the forests behind and travel into Tasmania’s wild Central Highlands, where the scenery opens into broad alpine plains and remote highland wilderness. Settle into Thousand Lakes Lodge, an isolated retreat surrounded by the distinctive landscapes of the Tasmanian interior. The change in terrain brings an entirely new photographic character, with open skies, subtle alpine colours and vast horizons creating opportunities to work with scale, composition and the shifting moods of Tasmania’s high country.

Day

7

Photography Workshops in Central Highland

Remain at Thousand Lakes Lodge for a day dedicated to developing both the technical and creative sides of your photography. Workshops and image-review sessions provide opportunities to examine photographs from the journey so far, refine techniques and develop a more considered approach to composition. Time in the field continues around the lodge’s remote alpine environment, with opportunities for wildlife encounters and landscape photography. With just six guests on the expedition, the experience allows for highly personalised guidance and mentoring.

Day

8

Journey to Cradle Mountain

Continue towards Cradle Mountain, pausing at scenic locations along the way as Tasmania’s highland landscapes become increasingly dramatic. Arrive in one of the island’s most celebrated wilderness regions and begin exploring its alpine scenery, with photographic opportunities shaped around the prevailing light and conditions. Check into Cradle Mountain Hotel, ideally situated for accessing the national park and its key photography locations ahead of an early start the following morning.

Day

9

Discovering Dove Lake

Begin before dawn at Dove Lake, positioning yourself to photograph the first light illuminating Cradle Mountain and its surrounding alpine landscape. Continue exploring the national park throughout the day, seeking out its most photogenic locations while watching for native wildlife among the forests, button-grass plains and mountain scenery. With expert guidance available throughout, the day provides time to experiment with different perspectives and respond to Tasmania’s famously changeable conditions before returning to Cradle Mountain Hotel.

Day

10

Final Departure

Leave Cradle Mountain and travel north towards Devonport, with one final photographic experience at the Tasmanian Arboretum. Its peaceful waterways provide an opportunity to search for and photograph platypus living in the wild, bringing the expedition to a fitting conclusion centred on Tasmania’s extraordinary natural world. The tour finishes in Devonport, with an optional transfer back to Hobart available for those continuing their journey from the capital.
