1
Arrive in Chongqing where you will be met and transferred to the Yangzi Explorer. After settling into your cabin, enjoy dinner on board followed by a safety briefing and Captain’s Welcome Reception. As the ship sets sail, take in the illuminated skyline of Chongqing, known as the “Mountain City,” where rivers and peaks define the landscape.

Begin the day with Tai Chi before exploring either Project 816, a vast underground military complex hidden in the mountains, or the White Crane Ridge Underwater Museum showcasing ancient riverbed carvings. Later, return to the ship before choosing between a spectacular Three Kingdoms live performance or a cultural walk through Zhongzhou Old Alley, where historic architecture and daily life coexist.

Sail through Qutang Gorge before exploring Wushan. Choose between a cliffside walk along the Goddess Sky Road with panoramic views of the Yangtze or a boat journey through the Lesser Three Gorges along the Daning River. In the evening, witness the Yangzi Explorer passing through the world’s largest ship lift at the Three Gorges Dam, an engineering spectacle best viewed from your cabin.

Start with Tai Chi before choosing between a visit to the Three Gorges Dam, including the River Closure Park and Project Museum, or a cultural tour to Qu Yuan Temple and the Resettlement Museum. After lunch, explore Sanyou Cave, a historic site at the entrance to Xiling Gorge, known for its natural beauty and literary heritage.

Travel through the dramatic landscapes where multiple rivers converge. Choose between exploring Wuyuan Cave via sampan through underground waterways or visiting Badong Museum and Wu Gorge Lookout for sweeping views. In the evening, attend an outdoor cultural performance bringing local history and traditions to life.

Sail through Wu Gorge and Qutang Gorge before choosing between visiting White Emperor City, rich in historical and literary significance, or walking part of the Poetic Trail for stunning gorge views. This region is famed for inspiring classical Chinese poetry and offering some of the most iconic landscapes along the Yangtze.

Dock at Zhongxian and choose between visiting Shibaozhai, a striking multi-storey wooden pavilion built into a cliff, exploring Xituo Ancient Town with its historic salt trade heritage, or discovering Huanghua Island with its ancient fortifications. Each option offers insight into the cultural and historical significance of the Yangtze region.

Disembark at Chongqing and transfer to the airport, railway station, or city centre for your onward journey, concluding your Yangtze River cruise experience.
