Day
1
Arrive in Auckland and collect your rental vehicle before travelling south through the rolling countryside of the North Island toward Rotorua. Along the way, there is the option to stop at either the Hobbiton Movie Set or the famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves, both offering an unforgettable introduction to New Zealand’s landscapes and storytelling culture. Upon reaching Rotorua, settle into the region’s geothermal atmosphere, where steaming valleys and lakeside scenery create a uniquely calming setting. If time allows, unwind in the mineral-rich waters of the Polynesian Spa before dinner.
Day
2
Begin the day at the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute, where traditional carving, weaving and cultural performances provide deeper insight into the country’s Indigenous heritage. Later, continue to Rainbow Springs Nature Park to discover native wildlife, including New Zealand’s iconic kiwi bird and a range of rare endemic species. The day combines cultural immersion with the natural landscapes and biodiversity that make Rotorua such a distinctive destination.
Day
3
Today blends scenic exploration with high-energy adventure. Travel to Mamaku and board the self-drive RailCruiser for a journey through the peaceful Dansey Scenic Reserve, passing forests, farmland and historic railway routes. In the afternoon, the pace shifts toward Rotorua’s adventure attractions, where thrilling activities such as the Shweeb Racer and zorbing capture the playful side of the region’s outdoor culture.
Day
4
Leave Rotorua behind and continue your journey through New Zealand’s evolving landscapes, transitioning from volcanic terrain and lush farmland toward the dramatic scenery of the South Island. Whether travelling via domestic flight or scenic road connections, the journey introduces the alpine character that defines the southern half of the country. Upon arrival, settle into your accommodation surrounded by mountains, lakes or coastal wilderness depending on your route south.
Day
5
Spend the day immersed in the spectacular landscapes of the Southern Alps. Snow-capped peaks, glacier-fed rivers and vast valleys create some of New Zealand’s most dramatic scenery. Optional guided excursions reveal alpine walking trails, remote viewpoints and opportunities to experience the immense scale of the mountains from both the ground and the air.
Day
6
Arrive in Queenstown, New Zealand’s celebrated alpine resort town. Surrounded by the Remarkables mountain range and the deep waters of Lake Wakatipu, the town combines outdoor adventure with boutique luxury and vibrant dining. Spend the afternoon exploring the waterfront, riding the Skyline Gondola or simply enjoying the atmosphere from one of the lakeside cafés and restaurants.
Day
7
Travel into Fiordland National Park for a scenic experience through Milford Sound, one of New Zealand’s most iconic natural landscapes. Towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls and mist-covered fjords create an atmosphere of immense scale and isolation. Whether explored by cruise, coach or scenic flight, the journey reveals the extraordinary wilderness that has made Fiordland world famous.
Day
8
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your onward journey. As New Zealand’s mountains, lakes and dramatic coastlines disappear beneath the clouds, the journey concludes with memories of Māori culture, geothermal landscapes, alpine adventures and some of the world’s most extraordinary natural scenery.
