Day

1

Private Shugendo Immersion & Sacred Mountain Retreat

Your day begins at 7:00 AM with a private car transfer arranged by your Club Assistant, departing discreetly from the hotel for a confidential destination. Depending on your chosen arrival style, you will reach the sacred site either by helicopter at 7:30 AM or by private car at 9:30 AM. Upon arrival, you will change into traditional white attire and begin an immersive three-hour Shugendo experience—an ancient Japanese mountain ascetic practice blending esoteric Buddhism, Shinto, and rigorous spiritual discipline. The experience includes temple visits and the profound ritual of Takigyo (waterfall meditation), where you stand beneath cascading water in contemplative purification. At midday, you will transfer by hired car to your accommodation for a brief rest before a 12:00 PM traditional lunch served at a shukubo (temple lodging), offering refined Buddhist cuisine. In the afternoon, you will participate in Shodai (chanting practice), engaging in meditative recitation within a sacred setting. The day concludes with a serene dinner at your accommodation, allowing time for reflection on this deeply spiritual journey.

Day

2

Sacred Dawn Ritual, Samurai Heritage & Martial Discipline Experience

Your day begins at 5:00 AM with an early wake-up to participate in a solemn morning ritual alongside resident monks, offering an authentic glimpse into monastic spiritual practice and centuries-old devotional tradition. Following this contemplative start, you will enjoy breakfast at the accommodation at approximately 6:00 AM. Later in the morning, you will travel—either by helicopter or private hired car—to a historic temple associated with Takeda Shingen, the legendary Sengoku-period samurai warlord. Here, you will explore the temple grounds and take part in a refined traditional tea ceremony, experiencing the disciplined elegance and quiet symbolism that define this cornerstone of Japanese cultural heritage, with lunch thoughtfully incorporated into the ceremony.

In the afternoon, you will change into training attire for an immersive Iaido lesson. Iaido—often described as “the art of drawing the sword”—is a classical Japanese martial art centred on the controlled, precise, and fluid movements involved in unsheathing, striking, and resheathing the katana in response to a hypothetical opponent. Under expert guidance, you will learn the foundational techniques and philosophy behind this disciplined practice. Following the session, you will transfer to your second accommodation for a period of rest, where refined facilities—including a private bathroom and sauna—offer relaxation and recovery. The day concludes with dinner at the accommodation and an evening Zen meditation session, allowing for quiet reflection after a day steeped in spiritual tradition, samurai history, and martial artistry.

Day

3

Closing Zen Practice & Return Transfer

Your final morning begins with a guided Zen meditation session, offering a calm and centring conclusion to your journey. In the stillness of the practice, you will have the opportunity to reflect on the spiritual disciplines, cultural traditions, and martial experiences that have shaped your time here. Following this contemplative start to the day, you will depart at midday via private hired car, returning comfortably to your residence. With this transfer, your immersive journey through sacred ritual, samurai heritage, and Zen philosophy draws to a close.
